2020 Honda Civic vs 2020 Subaru Impreza

Both vehicles are equipped with top-of-the-line components under the hood, but there are some slight differences. In the Civic, you'll find the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder inline engine, supplying 158 horsepower.

You also have the option for an upgrade with the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, which gives you more oomph at 174 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there's the turbocharged 4-cylinder that generates 205 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque, if you choose the Honda Civic Si sedan.

In the Impreza, you'll also get a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. However, you'll get slightly less get-up-and-go on the road with 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. There's also no option for a different engine, as this is standard on every Impreza trim.

Additionally, drivers will get a slightly more customizable driving experience with the Honda because of the 6-speed manual transmission. The Subaru's standard transmission is only 5-speed.

Fuel Economy

If you're trying to garner as much efficiency out of either the Honda Civic or Subaru Impreza, you'll find that Honda easily outpaces its competitor. Mainly, the difference in fuel economy is because Honda gives the Civic so many unique engine variations, whereas Subaru has just the single motor for the Impreza.

With the Impreza, you can expect an EPA-estimated 28 city/36 highway MPG. Certain Civic engine and transmission pairings will help you easily top these figures, though. For instance, the in-line 4-cylinder motor mated to the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) on trims such as the EX-L results in an EPA-estimated 31 city/40 highway MPG.1

2020 Civic vs 2020 Impreza: Safety Features

Driver-assistive tech is so popular right now, so it's no wonder both Honda and Subaru have included innovative features in their vehicles. To gain more confidence on the road, these features work with you while you drive, allowing you to pay more attention to the road ahead.

The Civic comes standard with the amazing Honda Sensing®. This includes a Lane Keeping Assist System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, and auto high-beam headlights. Additionally, Honda LaneWatch™ is also standard on the EX, EX-L, and Touring trims.

Although Subaru comes with a great driver-assistive suite, as well as EyeSight®, it's not standard on any of their Impreza trims-it's only an available option. Nevertheless, it comes with similar cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-keep assist features, and is proven to lessen the chance of collisions like the Honda Sensing® does.

Creating Your Unique Sedan

The car you drive on a daily basis is going to reflect your unique personality. To best land the model you want, having as many options available as possible is helpful. The difference in choices between the 2020 Honda Civic and 2020 Subaru Impreza is vast.

For Subaru, the Impreza can come in a traditional sedan style, with four doors and your typical amount of interior space. There's also the Impreza 5-door, which serves as more of a hatchback or station-wagon option, ideal for growing families or those who require a little more cargo space in the rear.

Lastly, there's a sports sedan version of the Impreza, yet because no new motor is introduced in this trim level, the sports sedan title is more nominal than functional.

As soon as you begin looking at the 2020 Honda Civic, though, it's like choosing between four or five different models. The most common version is likely the sedan, your typical 4-door option similar to that of the Subaru Impreza. Then, if you want to compact the car further, you can choose the Honda Civic Coupe, a sleeker and more eye-catching version.

From there, the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback ramps up the interior space and serves as more of a station-wagon-like model, such as the 5-door variant for the Impreza. Finally, the Honda Civic Si Sedan is the most athletic version of the model. With upticks in performance output, thanks to a re-tuned engine, the Honda Civic Si Sedan is a functioning sports car-unlike the competing Subaru Impreza Sports Sedan.

Beyond just the different body types, Honda gives you a wider range of trim levels to consider than the Subaru Impreza.
