Constants Throughout the Trim Lineup
While each trim level of the 2022 Honda Civic comes with its own range of unique traits, certain traits remain static throughout the trim lineup. Mostly, these similar traits relate to the amount of space inside the car. So for example, you can expect the following in each trim of the Civic:
- 42.3 inches of front legroom
- 37.4 inches of rear legroom
- 57 inches of front shoulder room
- 56 inches of rear shoulder room

Cargo capacity in the trunk also remains static in each trim, measuring 14.8 cubic feet.
There are some slight differences in cabin space between the first two trims and the latter two trims. The standard LX and EX feature 99 cubic feet of passenger volume, 39.3 inches of front headroom, and 37.1 inches of rear headroom. Moving to the Sport or Touring means you have 96.6 cubic feet of passenger volume, 37.6 inches of front headroom, and 37.1 inches of rear headroom.
Finally, each Civic comes loaded with driver-assistance safety technology courtesy of the Honda Sensing® Technology suite. Just a few of the systems you can expect in every 2022 Civic trim include:
- Collision Mitigation Braking Systemâ„¢
- Road Departure Mitigation System
- Lane Keeping Assist System
- Forward Collison Warning
Honda Civic LX
As we start to break up the Civic trims one by one, it all begins with the standard LX option. The LX is plenty fun to drive, thanks to its peppy engine. The non-turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder uses a continuously variable transmission and returns an EPA-estimated 31 city/40 highway MPG.1 It's not the most efficient or powerful trim, yet it's plenty good for daily driving.
Interacting with the 7-inch color touchscreen is a breeze, thanks to the standard Apple CarPlayâ„¢ and Android Autoâ„¢ integration systems. Once you've paired your smartphone to the vehicle, you can swiftly move between screens while accessing your favorite applications.
Honda Civic Sport
Stepping up to the Sport trim, you'll see it retains the same engine under the hood of your Civic and comes with plenty of niceties. For instance, you move from the 4-speaker audio system to the more impressive 8-speaker arrangement.
A leather-wrapped steering wheel is soft to the touch and adds a sense of luxuriousness to the interior. Paddle shifters along the steering wheel also give you the chance to move through the simulated gears. Plus you've also got Smart Entry w/Walk Away Auto Lock®--a system that makes it easy to enter the car and ensures you never forget to lock it.
Honda Civic EX
The Honda Civic EX is where the trim levels for the 2022 Civic really begin to change. The most notable change is under the hood, where the turbocharged 4-cylinder boasts 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Even with this upgraded power, the EX actually returns the best fuel economy in the trim lineup-an EPA-estimated 33 city/42 highway MPG.1
So you may be wondering why the Civic EX has slightly less interior headroom than the first two trims. It's because the EX comes with a one-touch power moonroof. So, while you're giving a bit of space in the headroom department, you'll also getting a tremendous view of the world above.
Finally, the addition of heated front seats is a game-changer for the EX, especially when the weather gets chilly.
Honda Civic Touring
At the top of the trim list for the 2022 Civic resides the Touring. The elegance of the Touring is immediately noticeable. The smaller touchscreen in the first three trims is swapped out for a 9-inch unit. You also benefit from a 10.2-inch driver infotainment screen.
Leather trimming on the front seats and a 12-speaker Bose® surround-sound system with a subwoofer are also worthwhile touches. To keep your phone charged while on the go, just plop it onto the wireless phone charging port.
